Tricia Hendry Professional Development Workshops

STAROS is pleased to bring Tricia Hendry back to the Hawkes Bay to deliver professional development workshops for frontline support workers and work leaders and managers. 

Venue: These will be held in the Port Room at East Pier Hotel in Ahuriri, Napier on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd February 2023.

We first brought Tricia to the Bay in November 2019 for two workshops which were very successful and look forward to her delivering these ones.  Seats will be limited to 35 per session so let us know if you’re interested and we’ll pencil you in.  Costs per workshop will be $80, discounted to $70 per workshop if more than one workshop booked per person.  Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea will be provided.

Tricia Hendry

Tricia Hendry is a published writer, educator, and presenter specialising in issues of grief and trauma, professional self-care, mental health and wellbeing, and resilience. She has lived experience of loss and trauma herself and understands the complexity and challenge unwanted life changes bring.

Formerly Deputy Chief Executive of the national support agency Skylight, Tricia currently works on resource, education, and policy projects for a wide range of government agencies and NGOs.  She is also a qualified professional supervisor supporting front line workers and those in helping professions.  (

A Workshop Day for Frontline Support Workers

This professional development day will inform, upskill, and support you in your people-facing support role.

Workshop 1:  9:00am - 12:00pm

Effectively supporting families and whānau experiencing grief and distress when facing difficult change and loss of any kind

We will focus on ways to provide helpful support for all ages, including children and young people, and support that's culturally respectful and relevant. This workshop will be relevant for anyone working with people in tough life situations. It will be very practical and engaging, and you will leave with helpful notes, resources, and some fresh ideas.

Workshop 2:  1:00pm - 4:00pm

Sustainable You: optimising your own mental health and wellbeing at work

Whatever your role is, this straight-talking, honest workshop will look at practical, everyday ways to ensure you don't burn out or, if you do, how you can get back into balance. It will offer a fresh perspective on self-care by considering realistic ways you can prioritise it at work and not just when you get home.

In these rocky, uncertain times, leaders and managers are dealing with more than ever - especially if your organisation provides support for people facing difficult or challenging life circumstances of any kind. This day will provide helpful insights, and useful resources to support you as you lead others.

Workshop 1:  9:00am - 12:00pm

Preventing professional burnout or compassion fatigue happening in your team - understanding the factors in play, developing, and using targeted and workable policy, and providing effective team support

We will consider common team issues and ways to approach sensitive conversations with team members in crisis.

Workshop 2:  1:00pm - 4:00pm

Build Resilient Teams by developing a strong and sustainable team culture in your workplace

We will consider the key resilience factors that can help to strengthen your team culture and overall workplace culture. You will leave with fresh approaches, new ideas, and an understanding of the ways a more resilient team culture can improve the work experience for your team - and for you!
